It's spangly cos it can be and I completely understand the dilemma of trying to figure out why and how a subject should have spangle attached to it. Lovely bokeh shot and the little hexagons of your lens shape are fabulous. How did you suspend the onion there? Was there a bit of cotton that we no longer see? I was also trying to figure out how to get an onion into my shot, but spangly didn't cross my mind, so I went with green brocolli instead. Very nice work with your lighting.
Looks like an onion levitating in front of an arena full of people (or vegepeople) holding up little lights like people do at events. :) Fun shot, for sure!
