Ok I know the first thing that you're all going to say - 'blown highlights!!', but, you know what, I like them - I think they emphasise the theme more.
The intensity of a spotlight will always cause some highlights to be blown on a light-coloured subject, and I think that's how it should be in order to get the rest of the subject properly exposed. You have handled this one well, and it is a beautiful and pefectly positioned spotlight shot. Very well done!
Blown out at the top but not too much. The little stroke of light to the side of the marble is a shame but I guess the spotlight was not smaller (or the marble bigger). Besides that it is a very nice shot with some nice colors and shade in it.
I would have loved to see a little more reflected light at the bottom of the marble to help separate it from the background (maybe a sheet of paper as a reflector?) but it is still a great shot.
I like your attitude. Sometimes people can't see further than a photography rule. They hold on to them for life and miss out on the creative possibilities. I applaud you for sticking to your guns and the final image proves my point, it's wonderful!

ReplyDeleteOh beautiful! The marble is so silky looking in this. Great job!
ReplyDeleteNice job of highlighting.
ReplyDeleteI like it!
ReplyDeleteI like this, but the lighting makes the marble look a little bit flattened. Maybe that's what's appealing....
ReplyDeleteI like the blown highlights for this particular shot, especially with the deep shadow. Very nice tribute.
ReplyDeleteHe looks like a superstar accepting the applause. Very well done.

How interesting, I would have sworn it was a jawbreaker...you must have different marbles
