Worth 2010 Team Photo Tournament

The worth1000.com 2010 Team tournament began.
Nine teams competing over 5 rounds to be the best photo team of 2010.
The teams are

After 5 gruelling rounds Team Raw Talent took the crown with a total of 3 round wins. Well done us :)

Day 30

Yippee! Finished it! Although my internet has gone down so I'm having to post this from a friend's house

Today I thought I would reshoot the very first photo on day 1, sort of as a record of whether I've improved or not. Have I?

Day 29

Popcorn. This was taken on a sheet of green perspex with the flash shot through it. I then flipped it and thought it looked cool

Mould, fungus et al  - modelled today by our lovely Miss Tomato. This bloody thing has been sat in my garage for the last 2 weeks stubbornly refusing to go mouldy. You keep them in the fridge and BAM they're mouldy before you can blink and when you want them to go bad, they don't!! So my vision of a totally mouldy tomato didn't materialise

Buildings (extensions etc)

Funny, but most of the ideas I have for this theme appear to me by themselves. My subconscious is probably working away in the background analysing all my thoughts for ideas that might fit and then shouting 'Hey, how about this? - get your camera out!' These are my brother-in-law's extension plans ( I was helping him move his shed in preparation).

Edited to add that the bread was delicious yesterday !

Bread dough. This one is mixed pepper bread (or will be shortly) :D

Sets of building stuff. Meccano, Lego, building blocks etc. This Meccano set is mine from when I wer' knee-high to a grasshopper - probably 30-odd yr old or so

I seem to be 'stealing' ideas off other challengees recently. They say imitation is the best form of flattery :D

I just noticed the creamy yellowy cast just around the shadow area. Ah well, maybe I'll adjust it later

Metal. It expands when heated and contracts when cooled. 'Nuff said :P

Inspired by purplefrog, I've decided to go for a culinary photo today. "More plants! For goodness' sake" I hear you cry. Well, not quite...

Day 20

Parachute. If you think I'm going to unpack 180 sq ft of parachute on a rainy day just to take a photo for you, then think again!! :D So instead here is the toggle for the pilot chute (that's the little one that you pull out that opens the main canopy - hopefully). This little guy hasn't let me down yet!

Feet  (Don't worry - they have all just been washed!)
I've been away this weekend with friends and my initial idea was to get all 12 kids to show their feet and try to spell FEET with them, but as the ages ranged from 4 to 13 it was a nightmare, so I gave up and just used my kids when we got home

Getting a bit more philosophical now.
Ideas is todays photo. I soldered the wires direct to the bulb and removed the mess in PS. DON'T try this at home! Do it at a friend's house then you can claim off their insurance :D
No, seriously my safety was the priority, so I got one of the kids to switch it on for me. What? It's ok, I've got another 3 kids in case it  didn't go smoothly...

Half way through! Never thought I'd last this long to be honest
The Universe! (well, maybe not all of it)
We had a clear-ish sky last night (don't worry it was after midnight, so it's todays photo :D)
It was an educated guess about the rotation point, but at a cost to the composition (my neighbours might have wondered what the hell I was doing at 12.30am standing in their garden) It was a 15min-ish exposure (my battery wouldn't have lasted for the processing if I'd done it any longer)

Thermometer. Apparently it is alcohol mixed with red dye in thermometers (according to Wikipedia anyway)

Shadow lengthening towards the end of the day. This was originally a landscape shot, but seems to have more impact in portrait. Do you agree?

I'm afraid this is a quick one. Had to upload to a laptop that has no image editing, so Aviary came to the rescue!! Just ignore the blank bit at the side!! Didn't want to miss the deadline!! (Edited to add - proper image inserted now!)

I ended up compositing this one and cleaning up the background. As I mentioned earlier I'm down to one flash at the moment and couldn't blow out the background.

What's this then I hear you say? An expanding planet?  'Fraid not,  just a balloon

I got fed up of trying to wipe the dust off the statically charged sphere so  I invoked my artistic licence and it became texture

So...things that grow - the ironing pile!
When you have 4 kids the ironing pile is never depleted.
I intended to add fill light to lighten the front face more, but the battery died in my ebay trigger and I didn't have a spare (Strobist info - snooted flash above, 2 white reflectors to try to fill front 1/500s @ f22)
