Day 31 - Special Halloween Edition

A witch? Which witch? This witch - a tiny witch that came in a Halloween flower spray. Flowers at halloween? Sigh...where will it end? Why so many questions today? No idea, but here's today's photo - the final day of the challenge.

Day 30 - Slugs 'n' Strawberry

Found these guys tucking into one of my strawberries (still on the plant - not in the fridge or anything

Day 28- Struck

Ok, so today's idea was blatantly stolen from today's Photo POTD on worth

This one (below) would have been my first choice if it weren't for the blown out highlights though

Day 26 - Screws

Ok. I'm not at home, but I do have my camera, internet access on a borrowed laptop, but I don't have the cable to connect my camera to transfer today's photo :(

So if you picture a ring of smalls screws on a red background with a shallow macro DoF then you'll have an idea of what my picture looks like or will look like when I post it here tomorrow :)

And here it is!

Friday 25 October 2013

Day 25 - Spaghetti

I had a few alternates for today, but finally went with the more abstract 'crowd scene' one. Below today's shot you can see the 'normal' spaghetti shot I did first, followed by an inverted messing around one

Day 24 - Shooting Star

When you wish upon a star...
This one is actually a drinking glass that has embedded glass stars in it

Wednesday 23 October 2013

Day 23 - Safety Pin

Some may know them as Nappy pins or Diaper pins(?) maybe.
Whatever they are called they still look the same! This one has some funky split toning though

Tuesday 22 October 2013

Day 22 - Steam Iron

This macro of a steam iron plate reminds me of the boardgame 'Battleships'.
The vents also look like 'outies' rather than 'innies', if you see what I mean.

Monday 21 October 2013

Day 21 - Sun Spots?

So after the success of my recent astrophotography shot, I combined my gear with some empty toilet roll tubes to increase the focal length and came up with this close-up of a star in the centre of the aforelinked newly-forming galaxy. I think that's 2-0 to me, Geoff, isn't it? ;)

Funny how it also resembles a close-up of a backlit eggshell too. How uncanny is that?

Day 19 - Stalk (sunlit) with Dew

Ok, so basically it's another 'Sunlit Dew' shot, but notice how I cunningly yet subtly changed it to Stalk. Damn, I'm good!

Friday 18 October 2013

Day 18 - Scourer

A scourer (which resembles Steel wool incidentally). What else is there to say?

Thursday 17 October 2013

Day 17 - Skin

Lay some skin on me, dude.

I know this photo like the back of my hand

Wednesday 16 October 2013

Day 16 - Sea Salt

None of your run-of-the-mill table salt here, my mateys. We have the finest (not literally) Sea Salt on offer today. It rocks!

Tuesday 15 October 2013

Day 15 - Sunlit Dewdrop

A lovely fresh morning here in the UK - perfect for sparkling dewdrop shots (try saying that when you've had a drink or two).

Monday 14 October 2013

Day 14 - Strings

On a dark desert highway...cool wind in my hair...

It was Antoine's post on Visionary that gave me the idea for today's shot - Geeetarr strings
The great thing about macro shots like these are that there's always one point of the strings in focus no matter where you intend to get the focus point :D

Sunday 13 October 2013

Day 13 - Spider's Supper

Ok, so it looks like it was last week's supper, but it was shot today. Think it may have been a wasp or a bee by the looks of that yellow fur/hairs(??)

Saturday 12 October 2013

Day 12 - Seeds

As it's nearly Halloween, I thought I'd crack open a packet of Pumpkin seeds to celebrate...

Friday 11 October 2013

Day 11 - Solar Slick

I thought today I'd get out my 42" reflector telescope and, coupled up with my 800mm Nikon 1.8 lens, try to upstage Geoff Scott and his fabulous astral photography. So here's the some planets 'n' stuff  in the Wha'dahell Dua; Planetary System, about 250 lightyears north of Hesmakinitup IV, and just to the left of Susan Milnthorpe's bedroom window, which, I can tell you,  has it's own dual planetary system, especially about 10.30pm on a Wednesday night...

...or it could be some oil drops floating on water in a glass.

Wednesday 9 October 2013

Day 9 - Screwdriver

It's a Phillips screwdriver (no it's not, it's mine)

Created by Henry F. Phillips, the Phillips screw drive was purposely designed to cam out when the screw stalled, to prevent the fastener damaging the work or the head, instead damaging the driver. This was caused by the relative difficulty in building torque limiting into the early drivers.

See, this challenge is educational too

Tuesday 8 October 2013

Day 8 - Sticky Gear

If you don't know, Ddallas has been having a little trouble with a sticky gear in her D40, which she has to nudge every few shots to get it going again. I have a knackered D40 and I thought I would see if  the gear and the motor that drives it are easily accessible. I got it out, Dd!!

I only had to remove a few screws to get to it...

Monday 7 October 2013

Day 7 Speaker

This is the name badge 'Mission' on the front of a speaker.
Pop quiz - where have you seen that speaker before? A big fat +1 goes to the first correct answer

Sunday 6 October 2013

Day 6 - Sieve

A sieve - noun - a utensil consisting of a wire or plastic mesh held in a frame, used for straining solids from liquids, for separating coarser from finer particles, or for reducing soft solids to a pulp.

Just in case you weren't sure.

Day 2 - Snail

So it looks like I may be going with the letter 'S' or with macros - but don't quote me on that :D
This little fellow was very shy and didn't want to come out for the paparazzi

Tuesday 1 October 2013

Day 1 - Green Strawberry

Ok I haven't quite decided my theme yet. It may be macro, or my 50mm, or things beginning with 'S' :D
Anyway here's my first

A New Era has Dawned - 31-Day Challenge on Visionary

Following the very sad demise of Worth1000.com, a new G+ community 'Visionary' has been setup to continue the unparalleled community spirit of Worth. Today begins a 31-Day challenge where each participant has to take a photo every day for the entire month of October. Stay tuned for my theme and first photo...

Scratch the part about Worth kicking the bucket - it's back up and running under new management! Visionary is still a cool place to hang out though!
